Review: Motorola W315

The Good: The features on this phone are quite easy to use.  One of the features of the Motorola W315 that will definitely come in handy is the speaker phone, which will allow you to talk on your mobile phone while still be able to use both of your hands for driving.  The design of the mobile phone is also quite modern and popular as it uses the vertical, rectangular display that a lot of the other mobile phones that are on the market today are also using.  You will more than likely also like the fact that it will store more than 500 contacts.

The Bad: You may find that you do not like the internal display on this mobile phone.  While it can support 65,000 different colors, these colors look dull, which makes it somewhat difficult read.  The controls are flat and quite spacious, but they are a bit clunky when you are using them.  Another thing that you may dislike is that whenever you are talking on the phone, the volume level seems to fade in and out a bit.  This can sometimes make it difficult to speak on the telephone because you may be unable to hear everything that the person on the other end of your cell phone is saying.  The size of this mobile phone is also a bit heavy as it weighs 4 ounces, which is surprising for such a small phone.

The Bottom Line: While this mobile phone may work well for some people, if you are going to be making and receiving a lot of telephone calls on your cellular phone, you will probably want to look around.  There are definitely some better options out there if you are willing to take the time to look around and spend a little extra money.

Review: HTC Touch

The Good: The compact HTC Touch features an advanced touch screen that lets you operate the smart phone with your fingertips. The Windows Mobile 6 smart phone also has an updated interface, integrated Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and a 2-megapixel camera.

The Bad: The Touch’s tiny onscreen keyboard makes it a pain to enter any text, and the TouchFLO feature doesn’t work in landscape mode. The SIM card and microSD slots are hard to access. Also, speakerphone quality was poor, and the device can be sluggish at times.

The Bottom Line: The HTC Touch boasts an innovative touch screen and sleek interface, but the lack of a sizable keyboard really limits the usability of this device. And despite being impressed by the beautiful hardware, the Windows Mobile smart phone lags in performance and needs a bit more tweaking before we’re ready to snatch one up.

Review: Palm Treo 680

The Good: The Palm Treo 680 features a sleeker design; integrated Bluetooth with the ability to use it as a wireless modem; more user-accessible memory; and e-mail capabilities. It also offers a bright touch screen and productivity tools and is easy to use.

The Bad: The smart phone doesn’t have integrated Wi-Fi nor does it support Palm’s Wi-Fi card or voice dialing. What’s more, the VGA camera is disappointing, the QWERTY keyboard is a bit cramped, and the speakerphone quality is a bit scratchy.

The Bottom Line: With a user-friendly interface, decent performance, and an affordable price point, the Palm Treo 680 is a good smart phone for the first-time buyer or for mobile users looking to be more productive on the road; we just wish it had a better camera and Wi-Fi support.
