Review: Motorola W315

The Good: The features on this phone are quite easy to use.  One of the features of the Motorola W315 that will definitely come in handy is the speaker phone, which will allow you to talk on your mobile phone while still be able to use both of your hands for driving.  The design of the mobile phone is also quite modern and popular as it uses the vertical, rectangular display that a lot of the other mobile phones that are on the market today are also using.  You will more than likely also like the fact that it will store more than 500 contacts.

The Bad: You may find that you do not like the internal display on this mobile phone.  While it can support 65,000 different colors, these colors look dull, which makes it somewhat difficult read.  The controls are flat and quite spacious, but they are a bit clunky when you are using them.  Another thing that you may dislike is that whenever you are talking on the phone, the volume level seems to fade in and out a bit.  This can sometimes make it difficult to speak on the telephone because you may be unable to hear everything that the person on the other end of your cell phone is saying.  The size of this mobile phone is also a bit heavy as it weighs 4 ounces, which is surprising for such a small phone.

The Bottom Line: While this mobile phone may work well for some people, if you are going to be making and receiving a lot of telephone calls on your cellular phone, you will probably want to look around.  There are definitely some better options out there if you are willing to take the time to look around and spend a little extra money.

RIM today announced the BlackBerry 8830, RIM’s first device to combine CDMA technology with GSM for global roaming. The 8830 is also RIM’s first CDMA device with the company’s new generation of hardware, featuring a thin design (0.55 inches), four-way trackball navigation, and a microSD memory card slot. Both Verizon Wireless and Sprint will offer the phone. The 8830 provides EVDO high-speed data on CDMA networks and GPRS data on GSM 900 / 1800 networks overseas. Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, media player, and a large QVGA display round out the feature set. Verizon Wireless announced it will offer the 8830 starting May 14 for business customers. Sprint will launch the 8830 in July, offering it with unlocked GSM so customers can use cheaper SIM cards when traveling, or the included Sprint SIM card to keep their own phone number.

Review: Samsung Mobi SCH-U620

The Good: The SCH-U620 is the first cell phone to support Verizon’s V Cast Mobile TV service. With excellent video performance, a 1.3-megapixel camera and camcorder, Bluetooth connectivity, and music playback, this is a full-featured multimedia phone.

The Bad: Given that live TV is the big selling point, the external speakers could be more robust and the display could be larger. Also, the fairly drab design belies the SCH-U620’s cutting-edge factor, and the music and video playback could be a lot simpler.

The Bottom Line: The first of two phones that support V Cast Mobile TV, the SCH-U620 is a solid performer. But those looking for more flash may want to wait for the LG VX9400.
